New fabric and ideas

So I've just got back from Brisbane where I was inspired with new ideas.  I recently bought myself a wide bias maker and my plan is to make some lightweight denim skirts, blue and black A lines and I'll be putting a patterned bias around the hem.  With this and some original applique featuring some new fabrics and embellishments I should soon have a few one off skirts for sale (and some for me!) which will be around $60 each.    That's all for now (as I get interrupted every 5 mins in school hols) but will be back with some more soon!  I am planning to make 2012 a year of creativity combined with part-time teaching, and hopefully will get to teach my students some creativity too!

Max's doona cover - finally!

It's about time, poor Max has had the same doona cover since he was 1!  So I finally made him a new one to go with his new lime green wall, I am pretty happy with the result.

New Fabric and exciting things

I was so excited today when this parcel arrived with this gorgeous fabric and some sewing tape, buttons and tags, can't wait to make something....

Recently I have been doing more painting than sewing - but I am now feeling the urge to start sewing again, especially since receiving this fabric yesterday! Isn't it beautiful!   It's great having the granny flat to do all my sewing in but it's a bit dark so I've been looking for a really good lamp so I can sew at night too.  We don't have a huge range of choices around here, and after trying unsuccessfully to get help from a local business over the phone, I found a great lighting shop online where the staff were more than happy to help me and I will shortly have an excellent new lamp and be able to see what I'm doing!


So... soon I will be much more productive with my sewing and looking forward to making some special new things in time for Christmas!!  I have already been out to the shed and found some old flyscreen so plan to make some groovy beach bags with that -  like Jacqui made in an earlier post.  So keep your eye on this blog for some new interesting things coming soon.....

More fabric!

Here's a pic of the latest fabric I got in the post today... There are two types of laminated cotton, Spring Rain polka dots, and 'Carnival' by Michael Miller, some cupcake fabric in flannelette, nice and soft! and more of the Carnival in cotton - I ran out of this as every purse I made in it sold pretty quickly. I am going to make a couple of bags from the laminated cotton, you can wipe it clean which is great for people who like just dumping their bags down or who have lots of grubby little hands all over their bags.....

Well, I sold my boy owl canvas in the shop on Friday then got an order for this bag (thanks Lainie) and so thought I'd do up another 3 boy owl canvasses at the same time .. so here they are... I also really love making these, might do a cat next though..

Happy Birthday Julia

These cushion covers are for Julia's birthday (my youngest sister), made from Valorie Wells fabric they should look great on her chocolate brown lounge!

These cute elephants are for two friends who are leaving town (not another one!...) and the singlets are for a baby girl (hopefully she'll be born in the next couple of days!)

Friendship cards

I made these cards after I found the image of the girls in a 1967 primary school textbook, back in the days when radio broadcasts were used in the classroom. This was an ABC radio book that students followed while listening to the broadcast. This image was from the unit on friendship and I love the illustration. I've put some Japanese craft fabric behind it and some ribbon and stitched it on the machine. The inside is lined with an insert.

New stuff that arrived today

Today was great as I received 4 packages in the mail with fabric, paper and jewellry making supplies! I now have a big bowl of pendants to decorate, lots of Japanese fabric and some new beautiful papers so I can't wait to start using them all. Here are a few samples of what I got.
